May Free Motion Quilting Challenge - just barely :)

I got this done and posted before I left for work this morning.  Not sure why but I really had to make myself do this one.  I did the double regular stipple on the twisters in a grey thread so you can't see it very well.  I used the same color thread on the border with the square stipple, I really liked that one better.  And the best, it's still May :)

Challenge Piece

Here’s my Free Motion Challenge piece for May.  I used the curvy one quite extensively, in large and small scale.  I like that one.  The square one I used just a small bit in small scale.  It’s good.  Another alternative.

May's challenge with Leah Day

This is the front side using purple 100% polyester Isacord thread for the large background stipple.
The pieces with the orange paper are the bottom side.  This exercise was good for practicing sewing straight lines while free motion quilting.  I found covering the entire space while following the first stipple line difficult. The pink thread is Coats 100%polyester trilobal thread.  For  photos of my sample quilt with May's challenge please click on the link.

Happy quilting all.

May results for the SewCalGal FMQ Challenge 2012

Leah Day is the May guest FMQ featured this month at SewCalGal.blogspot.com - come on over to see how everyone's work is progressing!

Personally, straight line quilting was very challenging for me - how did you do?  I like the 'train track' look, though!

When I'm recooperating from minor surgery at the end of May, it will be nice to play checkers with my family members on the scrappy quilt I created this week - my ten-year-old DS and I chose brown and ivory buttons to play with from great-grandma's button stash:

And here's the almost finished product (binding tomorrow!)

I added the hearts/leaves from January in the scrappy 3.5" border and the feathers from February in the outside border for another chance to improve.

Hope you're finding the time to participate in SewCalGal's FMQ Challenge 2012 - the prizes being given away look really wonderful!

Happy Sewing to all,
