Gail - Day 1

I'm struggling.   It's only day 1 and I'm trying to figure out what I'm trying to accomplish.  Last year when I did the challenge, all I wanted to learn was to do feathers.  My mission was clear... I was amazed that after about day 8, I was perfectly comfortable and was doing pretty good.

This time, I'd like to become comfortable doing other designs like leaves etc.   I love doing curly things but I find the back or over stitching becomes a bit much.   I want to learn to do some basic and not so small motifs that would be good for general quilting.  Table runners, place mats and other small projects.

To get ready for the challenge, I've sandwiched 2 table runners that I had sewn last year.

The first runner is not so important.  I'll consider it my warm up piece.   I grumbled the whole time I was working on it.   You can see my leaves from the back of the piece better.

I want to learn to do some basic and not so small motifs that would work for lots of general quilting.

I printed this leaf panto from a longarm catalogue, because it's the sort of thing that I would like to be able to accomplish.

Once I finish this first warm up piece, I want to machine quilt this runner that I pieced last year.  It's all layered and ready for quilting.  You might recognize it because one very similar was on ThreadHeads blog last year. I loved it and so I made one just like it.  I'm not sure how I'm going to quilt it yet but I want to do a really nice job on it.

I think your warm up piece looks good! I like the panto design you printed off to use as a guide - that's the type of thing I need to work more on. Thanks for a great idea!
